For many people, SSDs are the best thing since sliced bread. Ultrafast and no longer susceptible to knocks and vibration – it seemed as though spinning disks were destined for the scrap-heap.
However, as Korelogic have found, long term storage on an unpowered drive can be troublesome. Every 5 degrees C increase in the temperature of the environment of an unpowered SSD can halve the lifetime of the data stored therein.
For long-term offline storage – it looks like HDDs still may have the edge.
